HOLD STILL (tall) - a series of upright porcelain vessels that stand tall. Calm and meditative, these mindful vessels have been likened to nests. Carved naked exteriors that have the quiet strength of simply standing, "scarred" but composed. The tall vessels hold space, standing firm like sentinels, showing endurance. The vertical form evokes human stance and dignity. Groups form silent dialogues.
NEBULA - vessels that shift the focus away from the personal to a far wider perspective - to contemplate our position as humans on this planet in the universe. The aim is for us consider ourselves as ‘but specks on a ball of gas and dust’. The vessels attempt to recreate a ‘nebula’ by firing glaze & glass on the interior of the polished & carved porcelain exterior. Nebula provide a personal, quiet experience for the viewer.
By creating a nebula on the interior of the vessel, the viewer’s eye is drawn in to view more - that which is not immediately visible. It is the reverse of looking through a telescope where the night sky opens up.
S T I R - lively yunomi of white porcelain with cobalt porcelain swirls and twirls. Clear glazed interior through to the rim of the exterior. Diamond polished exterior below glaze 犬. These vessels are ready and waiting for your favourite beverage. Maybe a decaf flat white, a jasmine tea, an iced latte, water and more. . . the choice is limitless.
S W I R L - the focus is on action and movement. Blue and white porcelain wheel thrown vessels that aim to create swirls and twirls of movement. Visually spinning even though stationary. Clear glazed interiors with diamond-polished naked exteriors that invite touch and engagement. S W I R L sit happily alone and also enjoy company when in gatherings.
GATHERING - this series of porcelain vessels moves from the individual resilience and stillness of HOLD STILL to the realm of collective support. These vessels provide sanctuary, performing the act of "holding" for others.
GROWN UP - this series of vessels has carved, scarred naked exteriors. The carving in my work marks, shapes and reshapes the clay body, akin to our life (experiences, memories, encounters) marking and shaping us. These vessels retain colourful, shiny ‘hearts’.
HOLD STILL (globe) - a series of porcelain vessels that pause to rest. Able to stop and embrace the moment. Wide ranging in size from petite to much larger. Carved naked exteriors with glazed interiors.
GATHER - this series of porcelain vessels hold and contain. Meditatively embracing all that needs support. Carved naked exteriors with glazed interiors.
ROCK / SWAY - porcelain that moves. Small, rounded vessels tip and tilt with the forces thrown at them, but return upright to their strong core. This series developed initially during 2020. Happy alone and joyful in jingling groups of two, three or more. Polished naked exteriors with colourful glazed interiors.
KEEPERS - containers for memories or secrets. To house and keep safe the private and personal, be they thoughts, ideas or items.
E Q U A L Variation 3 - carved porcelain vessels adorned with solid silver strand that shifts and pulls when fired. Naked exteriors with transparent glazed interiors.
These E Q U A L bottle-like vessels sit happily alone yet also enjoy company in social/family gatherings.
